Handpainted, vintage chalkwear statue of St. Therese,
Measures16.25″ tall, 5.5″ wide.
This is a most lovely statue of Saint Therese (St. Terese, Theresa) of Lisieux and is most likely made in Austria or Germany as that is where we have found this mold to originate from, and we estimate her to be from the 1920’s or 1930’s. There are very few minor chips in the surface, two of which appear to have been covered with paint, one by her right cheek and the other just above her right temple. I don’t see any others that appear to have had any repairs to them. Her first finger on her right hand does not appear to be broken, but rather a problem with the molding process. Her height is an impressive 16 1/4″
She is depicted with cross and roses held close to her heart. St. Therese was a Carmelite nun who lived from 1873-1897. She died at the age of 24, and is one of the most beloved saints in the Catholic religion and is called the “Little Flower,” as she loved nature and often used it to describe her Lord. In her memoirs she wrote about herself as “the little flower of Jesus” and likened herself not to glorious flowers but to the wildflowers of forests and fields.She is the patron to gardeners and florists.
Her condition is amazing considering the age of this beautiful statue!
